Unique Content

Content Is King

One of the biggest mistakes a florist can make when building a website is to copy content from other florist websites. This type of activity is called ‘duplicate content’ in the online world and plagiarism in the book world. As you will already know plagiarism can have serious ramifications for someone, as does duplicating someone else’s words online.

The ramifications are rarely legal, but more cantered around Google penalties in terms of your rank. Meaning, if you choose to copy someone else’s content you risk your website being penalised severely by Google. Websites that contain duplicate content often will rank on pages 10+, which means they will never get found by your customers.

Content writing tips for florists:

  • Always use your own words, no matter how challenging or tedious
  • Never copy, ever
  • Did we say never copy another websites’ content
  • Use shorter sentences that you may usually use, and keep in mind what you are trying to target. If you are a florist in Townsville, ensure that you use the word Townsville as often as you can. For example, rather than ‘our shop’, say ‘Townsville Florist’. This will help Google to identify that these are important words the more you use them
  • Correct all spelling mistakes
  • Make your most important point in the first paragraph, not the last
  • Make a keyword or two bold per page. For example, ‘Sue’s Townsville Florist’. What are keywords? Read more here.
